## Synopsis

Czterdziestolatek (1975-1978) is a Polish television comedy series created by Jerzy Gruza and Krzysztof Teodor Toeplitz for TVP, running three seasons and 21 episodes. Stefan Karwowski (Andrzej Kopiczyński) and his wife Magda Karwowska (Anna Seniuk) anchor a Warsaw household whose domestic life is pushed sideways by midlife upheaval. Stefan's friend Roman Maliniak (Roman Kłosowski) and the couple's children, played by Grażyna Woźniak and Piotr Kąkolewski, widen the circle of everyday comic friction. Each episode is built from small domestic and workplace episodes: extramarital temptations, failed attempts to quit smoking, anxious vanity over thinning hair, and strained efforts to keep fit. The engine is the characters' struggle to find self-fulfillment and dignity while juggling careers and social obligations. Shaped as a light, episodic family sitcom, it is a gentle, wry and observational portrait of a middle-class household in a tightly managed state broadcasting era. Its tone is breezy and wistful rather than cutting. Fans of The Royle Family, Married... with Children and Keeping Up Appearances will find resonance in its warm, self-deprecating view of ordinary family life.
