## Synopsis

Merlin: Secrets and Magic (2009) is a British documentary companion series broadcast on BBC Three, offering a making-of look at the BBC One family fantasy drama Merlin. Rather than following a story of its own, the one-season run of fourteen episodes gathers exclusive backstage footage and on-set interviews in which the cast, including Colin Morgan, Bradley James, Katie McGrath, Richard Wilson, Anthony Stewart Head and Angel Coulby, appear as themselves to discuss their roles and the production. Each episode moves through the practical craft of building a fantasy world: sets, costumes, rehearsals and the day-to-day work behind the camera. The tone is warm, light and appreciative, the register of fans who want to see how an Arthurian legend reimagined for family audiences came together. Viewers drawn to behind-the-scenes documentaries, making-of features and cast interviews will find the access rewarding, and it sits comfortably beside companion features that accompany other long-running fantasy dramas. Its appeal rests on curiosity about process rather than plot, so it suits those who already know the parent show and want its people and production on screen.
