## Synopsis

The Last Don is a 1997 American television miniseries based on Mario Puzo's novel. It follows an aging Italian American mob patriarch whose sprawling criminal empire begins to crack as rivalries surface among his own kin. Loyalties are tested over business dealings, and family gatherings carry the constant threat of bloodshed. The story moves between tense boardroom-style sit-downs, sharp family confrontations, and sudden outbursts of violence that blur the line between household and criminal enterprise. Set across a multi-decade timeline in mid-century America, its mood is operatic, melancholic, and steeped in old-world tradition. Its emotional core is the cost of loyalty, the weight of inherited power, and the way ambition corrodes the bonds it claims to protect. Viewers drawn to The Godfather, The Sopranos, and Goodfellas will recognize its portrait of a crime dynasty in decline, its dark family drama, and its patient, consequential storytelling.
