## Synopsis

Scene of the Crime (1970-2026) is a German language public broadcast police procedural series co-produced across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, created for ARD, ORF and SRF and known in its original title as Tatort. It is an open ended crime anthology with fifty seven seasons and well over a thousand standalone ninety minute episodes, each one a self contained investigation handled by a rotating team of regional detectives. Principal cast members include Ulrike Folkerts as Lena Odenthal, Axel Prahl as Frank Thiel, Michael Fitz as Carlo Menzinger and Manfred Krug as Paul Stoever, whose partnerships and personal lives develop slowly across the decades of broadcast. The engine of each episode is a single murder or disappearance, the methodical work of interviews, forensic evidence and suspect pressure, and the ordinary frictions inside a local police unit. Each season offers a new city or region, so the tone shifts between grounded, sober and occasionally wry while keeping a consistent realistic register. Fans of Law & Order, Wallander and The Killing will find resonance in its patient, place rooted investigations and its focus on the human cost of crime.
