## Synopsis

Casshern Sins (2008-2009) is a Japanese adult animated science fiction series created for MBS and produced by Madhouse and Tatsunoko Production, a single-season run of twenty-four episodes. Its protagonist, the robot Casshern (voiced by Toru Furuya), is an assassin who cannot recall whether he killed Luna (voiced by Akiko Yajima), and his search for the truth drives the series. Along the way he meets Lyuze (voiced by Nami Miyahara) and Ringo (voiced by Yuko Minaguchi) as he wanders a post-apocalyptic future where the robot society that rules the planet is rusting and decaying under a plague called the Ruin. Each episode moves through bleak mechanized landscapes, and the story builds into a continuing mystery about identity, memory and responsibility. The tone is melancholic and philosophical, with violent action set against long reflective passages. It is a reimagining of the classic Casshan franchise, aimed at adult viewers who enjoy fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion and Ghost in the Shell and similarly bleak robot storytelling.
