## Synopsis

Eyeshield 21 (2005-2008) is a Japanese animated shonen sports series adapted from the manga and produced by Gallop, broadcast across a network of Japanese television stations including TV Tokyo. Timid high schooler Sena Kobayakawa, voiced by Miyu Irino, is a fast runner who enters Deimon Private Senior High School and is pressed into the American football club by its captain Yoichi Hiruma, voiced by Atsushi Tamura, a sharp-tongued manipulator who runs the team by force of will. To keep rival schools from recruiting him, Sena plays the running back role disguised as the masked Eyeshield 21, while acting as the team's secretary. Mamori Anezaki, voiced by Aya Hirano, and a roster of eccentric teammates and rivals fill out the Deimon Devil Bats' story. Each arc is built from match after match, with training camps, rival schools and escalating tournament challenges that test the team's grit. The tone blends brash comedy and exaggerated sporting spectacle with an earnest underdog heart. Fans of Haikyu!! and Kuroko's Basketball will find resonance in its high school competition and team growth, and viewers who enjoy Friday Night Lights may connect with its underdog gridiron drama. The series runs for a single season of 145 episodes.
