## Synopsis

Wallander (2005-2013) is a Swedish-Danish nordic noir series created by Henning Mankell for TV4. Its protagonist, detective Kurt Wallander (Krister Henriksson), works the police station in Ystad, a quiet southern Swedish city where gruesome, intricate murders disturb the calm. Each story is a feature-length case unfolding over roughly ninety minutes, and the three seasons are built from Mankell's novels, giving the show a three-season run of self-contained yet connected investigations. Wallander pursues the truth through interviews, stakeouts and dogged legwork, while his private life, strained family ties and loneliness weigh on every decision. Colleagues including Johan Svartman (Fredrik Gunnarsson) and Stefan Lindman (Ola Rapace) support or complicate his work, and his daughter Linda appears across the run. The mood is bleak, patient and contemplative, with long winter light and rural roads shaping the atmosphere. Fans of The Killing, The Bridge and other slow, somber European crime dramas will find resonance in its moral unease and its steady focus on ordinary people behind extraordinary violence.
