## Synopsis

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009-2010) is a Japanese animated shonen anime series created by BONES for MBS and TBS in its broadcast run. Edward Elric (voiced by Romi Park) and his younger brother Alphonse (voiced by Rie Kugimiya), whose soul is bound to a suit of armor, are young alchemists chasing the Philosopher's Stone to undo the damage of a forbidden ritual that cost Edward his limbs. Roy Mustang (voiced by Shin-ichiro Miki) and Riza Hawkeye (voiced by Fumiko Orikasa) of the state military, and Winry Rockbell (voiced by Megumi Takamoto), shape the brothers' world. The engine of the series is a steady quest across a steampunk-tinged fantasy country, where each episode pairs a travelling mission with a growing conspiracy involving a corrupt military and the shadowy Homunculi. The single 64-episode season is one continuing serialized story rather than a case-of-the-week format. Its tone blends action and adventure with melancholic, morally weighty drama, and its theme of sacrifice and an unbreakable sibling bond runs throughout. Fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Attack on Titan and Hunter x Hunter (2011) will find resonance here.
