## Synopsis

Hellcats (2010-2011) is an American college sports drama created by Kevin Murphy for The CW. Pre-law student Marti Perkins (Aly Michalka) loses her scholarship and must revive the teen gymnastics skills she had shelved in order to win a place on the cheerleading squad at Lancer University, a southern campus with a storied competitive team. Her engine is simple and urgent: she needs money and a foothold in school, and the squad's brutal tryouts, rival routines and social hierarchies stand in her way. Alongside her, Savannah Monroe (Ashley French) and Alice Verdura (Heather Hemmens) represent the pressures of rivalry and ambition within the squad, while Lewis Flynn (Robbie Jones) and Dan Patch (Matt Barr) add romantic and personal entanglements. Each episode builds around practices, competitions and campus politics, and the single season of twenty-two episodes plays as a continuing story rather than a case of the week. The tone is bright and earnest, with a glossy young adult sheen, a heartfelt wish to belong, and a sense of competitive pressure. Fans of Bring It On, Friday Night Lights and Greek will find resonance in its blend of athletic striving, campus social life and underdog determination. The series was canceled after its single season, leaving its story unfinished.
