## Synopsis

Private Practice (2007-2013) is an American network medical drama created by Shonda Rhimes for ABC, a spin-off of Grey's Anatomy. Kate Walsh plays surgeon Addison Montgomery, who leaves Seattle behind for a fresh start in Los Angeles and joins her medical school friends at Oceanside Wellness Center, a co-op clinic in Santa Monica. Paul Adelstein plays Cooper Freedman, Tim Daly plays Pete Wilder, and Audra McDonald plays Naomi Bennett, with Amy Brenneman and KaDee Strickland among the other principal doctors. Each episode pairs a patient case with the characters' tangled romances, friendships, and fertility struggles, so the clinic's daily business keeps spilling into private life. The show runs six seasons and 111 episodes as one continuing serialized story, with a glossy coastal look and a warm, sometimes melodramatic register. Its sunny Santa Monica setting gives the medical stakes a lighter, more hopeful tone than hospital dramas usually carry. Fans of Grey's Anatomy, Scrubs, and Ally McBeal will find familiar resonance in its ensemble of colleagues and its blend of romance and workplace drama.
