## What critics say

Critics found the show a sharp but formulaic multi-camera sitcom, with Shatner's lead performance the main highlight and the rest of the writing judged familiar and uneven.

## Synopsis

Shatner's Ed Goodson is a forthright, opinionated father who unloads wildly politically incorrect observations on everyone around him, his sons included. When struggling writer Henry Goodson moves back home after he can no longer afford his rent, the household becomes a crowded arena for relentless verbal barbs and attempts to keep some dignity. Jonathan Sadowski plays Henry, Nicole Sullivan plays Bonnie, and Will Sasso plays Vince, the meek half of a real estate pair dominated by his partner. Each twenty-one-minute episode runs on the collision between Ed's abrasive honesty and his sons' efforts to be taken seriously. The format is a conventional multi-camera domestic comedy with a stable cast, and the single season runs eighteen episodes. Set in a present-day American suburban home, it stays light, sharp and breezy in tone. Viewers who enjoy Married with Children, Everybody Loves Raymond and The Goldbergs will recognize its abrasive family dynamics and comic bickering, with warmth underneath the insults.
