## Synopsis

Mad (2010-2013) is an American animated sketch comedy series created by Kevin Shinick and William Gaines for Cartoon Network. Based on the long-running humor magazine of the same name, it runs four seasons and 123 fifteen-minute episodes, each one a stack of short, unrelated parodies. There is no single protagonist or continuing storyline; instead, every segment skewers a television show, movie, video game or celebrity with its own cast of voice performers, most prominently Kevin Shinick, who voices the bulk of the characters. Weird Al Yankovic, Gary Anthony Williams, Cree Summer, Diedrich Bader and Hugh Davidson also appear in the rotating roster of voices. The engine is the joke itself: a quick setup, a twist on a familiar format, and a punchline before the viewer can settle in. Each episode switches animation styles from one sketch to the next, so the look is as varied as the targets. The tone is breezy, irreverent and gently subversive, pitched for a young audience. Fans of Robot Chicken, Space Ghost Coast to Coast and Sanjay and Craig will find the same appetite for rapid-fire pop culture satire, softened for a family-friendly Cartoon Network slot.
