## Synopsis

Whose Line Is It Anyway? (1988-1999) is a British improv comedy series created by Mark Leveson and Dan Patterson for Channel 4. Hosted by Clive Anderson, the show has four guest performers, including regulars Josie Lawrence and Karen Maruyama, improvising their way through a run of short games built on audience suggestions. Nothing is scripted, so each episode's energy depends on the performers' quick wits, physical timing and willingness to commit to absurd premises invented in the moment. Across ten seasons and 136 episodes the format stays the same while the mix of guests changes, giving it a loose, sociable rhythm rather than a continuing story. The tone is playful, breezy and warmly silly, with an unpretentious studio feel that keeps the laughs coming without cruelty. Fans of Thank God You're Here, Have I Got News for You and Would I Lie to You? will find a similar appetite for spontaneous banter and clever wordplay.
