## Synopsis

Camelot (2011) is a US, British and Canadian historical fantasy series created by Michael Hirst and Chris Chibnall for STARZ. Joseph Fiennes plays the sorcerer Merlin, who has visions of a dark future and installs the young, impetuous Arthur, played by Jamie Campbell Bower, as king of a chaotic post-Roman Britain. Tamsin Egerton's Guinevere and Clive Standen's Gawain are among the allies who gather at Castle Camelot as Arthur tries to build a new and better kingdom where people can live in peace. Opposing him is his cold half-sister Morgan, played by Eva Green, who schemes from Castle Pendragon with her loyal maid Vivian and the devious nun Sybil. The engine of the ten-episode season is a fragile young ruler trying to hold together a kingdom while a dispossessed rival works the courts and bloodlines against him. Episodes mix political maneuvering, battlefield violence and sensual court drama in a sweeping, dark-toned register. The show was canceled after a single season, so its story ends unfinished. Fans of Merlin, Game of Thrones and The Tudors will find resonance in its blend of royal intrigue, mythic prophecy and brutal medieval power plays.
