## Synopsis

Chrono Crusade (2003-2004) is a Japanese anime series created by Yuu Kou, Hisao Muramatsu and Atsuhiro Tomioka and produced by GONZO, adapted from a manga. Set in 1920s New York, the story follows Rosette Christopher, a young member of the Magdalene Order, a religious organization that dispatches exorcists against demonic threats across the country. Rosette is partnered with her demon companion Chrono, an uneasy alliance that drives the series, and her private engine is her search for her lost brother Joshua. Each episode builds around a new demonic threat that the pair must track, confront and banish, with gunfights, shapeshifting foes and tense standoffs. Rosette's quest for her brother runs as a thread through the monster-of-the-week structure, giving the series a continuing emotional line. The single season of twenty-four episodes balances action with romance and tragedy. Its tone is earnest and melancholic, with a historical atmosphere of Jazz Age city streets and religious dread. Fans of Hellsing Ultimate, Darker than Black and Blood+ will find resonance in its supernatural combat, demon-human bonds and period setting.
