## Synopsis

Wilfred (2007-2011) is an Australian comedy series created by Jason Gann and Adam Zwar for SBS. Based on their award-winning 2002 short film, the show follows Adam Douglas (Adam Zwar), a directionless man who sees his girlfriend's dog as a man in a dog suit, and Sarah Mitchell (Cindy Waddingham), the girlfriend who sees only an ordinary pet. Jason Gann plays Wilfred, the dog whose sly, self-serving advice pushes Adam into one embarrassing scrape after another. The engine of the series is Adam's efforts to keep his relationship, friendships and self-respect intact while Wilfred keeps nudging him toward reckless schemes. Each episode is a self-contained, half-hour comic episode built from suburban misadventures, social blunders and the awkward dynamics of a new couple. The show spans two short seasons totaling twenty-one episodes, with a brisk, deadpan rhythm and a surreal premise played completely straight. Its tone is irreverent and cringe-prone yet warm underneath, with a melancholy edge in Adam's loneliness. Fans of Peep Show, Community and Bojack Horseman will find resonance in its blend of awkward humor and absurdist storytelling.
