## Synopsis

Boogiepop Phantom (2000) is a Japanese anime series produced by Madhouse for TV Tokyo, a twelve-episode supernatural mystery adapted from a novel. Five years after a run of grisly murders, rumors of Boogiepop, a shadowy figure said to take anyone who meets her one dark night, begin circulating again through a city of ordinary high school students. Principal characters include student Kirima Nagi, her classmate Manaka Kisaragi, and the elusive Boogiepop herself, while Manticore menaces the group. Each episode rotates perspective among interlocking characters, so the story emerges in fragments that viewers must piece together like a puzzle box. The mood is eerie, melancholic and psychological, with dread building from everyday school life toward something uncanny. Fans of Serial Experiments Lain, Paranoia Agent and Perfect Blue will find resonance in its unsettling atmosphere and blurred line between rumor and reality. It is a single season of twelve episodes.
