## Synopsis

Shameless (2011-2021) is an American dark comedy drama series created by Paul Abbott and John Wells for Showtime. Set in the working class South Side of Chicago, it follows the six Gallagher siblings who raise themselves while their charming, perpetually drunk single father Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy) passes out on the floor and spends what little money they have at the bar. Emmy Rossum plays Fiona, the eldest sister who holds the household together, while Jeremy Allen White plays Lip, the brilliant but unfocused brother, and Cameron Monaghan plays Ian. Their engine is pure survival: scrounging for food, dodging the county, juggling jobs and schoolwork, and stumbling through romances and schemes that rarely go as planned. The series runs as a serialized, eleven-season story, with each season built from a steady stream of episodes that mix raucous slapstick with heartbreaking moments of poverty, addiction, and neglect. The tone is gritty, irreverent, and bittersweet, a portrait of a family that feels both wildly entertaining and devastatingly real. Fans of Roseanne and Animal Kingdom will find resonance in its blend of humor and hard-edged drama about loyalty among people who have few reasons to trust anyone.
