## Synopsis

The Great British Bake Off (2010-2016) is a British reality baking competition series produced by Love Productions for BBC One and BBC Two. Presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins host while judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood assess a tent full of amateur home bakers. The engine of the show is simple and concrete: each week contestants face signature bakes, technical challenges where recipes are deliberately vague, and a showstopper that must impress, and the lowest scorers leave the tent until one best amateur baker is crowned. Its structure is a season-by-season competition across seven series, with episode counts growing over the run, and each season follows a consistent weekly rhythm. The atmosphere is warm, witty and encouraging, with gentle humor and affectionate rivalry rather than cruelty. Viewers see nervous cooks wrestle with soggy bottoms, collapsing sponges and ambitious sugar work under a canvas marquee in the English countryside. Credited with reviving enthusiasm for home baking across the country, the show has launched careers for many of its participants. Fans of MasterChef (UK), Great Pottery Throw Down and Queer Eye will find the same blend of craft, kindness and competitive stakes.
