## Synopsis

Petticoat Junction (1963-1970) is an American rural family sitcom created by Paul Henning for CBS. Bea Benaderet plays Kate Bradley, a widowed hotelier who runs the Shady Rest Hotel with her three young daughters, Betty Jo, Bobbie Jo and Billie Jo, played by Linda Henning, Lori Saunders and Jeannine Riley among others in rotating roles. Edgar Buchanan appears as Joe Carson, and Frank Cady's Sam Drucker is a recurring presence around town. The engine of the series is the everyday business of a small hotel: guests arriving, meals to serve, minor romances among the daughters, and neighborhood schemes that pile up episode by episode. Each half-hour episode is self-contained, a case of the week in a small community rather than a continuing serial. The show spans seven seasons and 222 episodes, and it belongs to CBS's rural comedy tradition of the 1960s. Its setting is a sleepy railroad town in the American countryside, rendered with warm, unhurried comic pacing. The tone is gentle, wholesome and cozy, with little bite. Fans of The Andy Griffith Show, Green Acres and The Beverly Hillbillies will find the same easygoing small-town comedy and family warmth.
