## Synopsis

Studio Julmahuvi (1998) is a Finnish sketch comedy series created for Yle TV1, a single-season run of eight half-hour episodes. Its cast of Petteri Summanen, Tommi Korpela, Jukka Rasila and Janne Reinikainen plays a rotating roster of various characters, with Erja Manto voicing the announcer role. Rather than following a single protagonist, each episode builds a mock evening of national public broadcasting, stacking news bulletins, weather reports, a children's programme, a German police drama and a parade of commercials and station promos into one compressed block. The engine is the gap between the polished trust of public television and the absurd situations that slip through it, with each sketch rapidly cutting to the next segment. The production carries a notably generous budget, so the parody looks as slick as the real thing it lampoons. The result is a crisp, deadpan satire aimed at viewers who grew up with Finnish public broadcasting, and fans of Monty Python's Flying Circus, The Fast Show and Brass Eye will recognise the same appetite for spoofing the medium itself.
