## Synopsis

Anno 1790 is a Swedish crime miniseries that aired on SVT1 in 2011 and runs for ten one-hour episodes. Set in 18th century Stockholm during the Age of Enlightenment, it follows a controversial surgeon, Johan Gustav Dåådh (Peter Eggers), and police commissioner Simon Freund (Joel Spira), who team up to solve murders using unconventional means that differ sharply from modern investigation. Their cases draw them into the city's wealthy and political circles, where the story keeps returning to the motives that never change: revenge, greed, love, jealousy and power. Magdalena Wahlstedt (Linda Zilliacus) and Carl Fredrik Wahlstedt (Johan H:son Kjellgren) add personal stakes to the investigations, while Nordin (Richard Turpin) brings the grit of the city's streets. Each episode is built around a self-contained murder whose solution reveals how the period's medicine, law and class structures shape guilt and justice. The tone is atmospheric and grounded, with a cool, measured pace and a Nordic noir sensibility wrapped in costume drama. Fans of Taboo, The Alienist and The Killing will find resonance in its blend of historical texture and dark investigative drama.
