## Synopsis

Princess Sissi (1997-1999) is a French-Canadian animated family drama created by Bruno Bianchi and broadcast on France 3 and Teletoon. Loosely drawn from the life of Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria, nicknamed Sissi, the series follows a spirited young princess as she adjusts to the rigid rules of the Habsburg imperial court in nineteenth-century Austria. Voiced by Michèle Lituac as Sissi, the cast includes Olivier Destrez as Franz von Habsbourg, Elisabeth Fargeot as Helena von Grosben, and Francine Lainé as Sophie de Bavière, whose courtly maneuvering and family loyalties drive much of the drama. Each of its fifty-two episodes runs about twenty-five minutes and is built around a palace-based episode problem: a social slight, a secret engagement, or a clash with stiff etiquette, resolved with warmth and gentle humor. The tone is sunny, hopeful and earnest, with a storybook sense of royal splendor. Fans of Anastasia and The Little Mermaid will find resonance in its blend of historical pageantry and youthful heroine adventure. The series remains a single season of fifty-two episodes, suitable for young viewers and families.
