## Synopsis

Vicky the Viking (1974-1975) is a Japanese-German animated family adventure series produced by Nippon Animation with Zuiyo, ORF and ZDF and broadcast on Fuji TV. Vicky, the slight and peace-loving son of the formidable chief Halvar (voiced by Kosei Tomita), refuses to pick up a weapon yet talks his way onto the voyages of the seasoned warriors, including the hulking Urobe (Koichi Kitamura) and the rough Snorre (Junpei Takiguchi). Narrated by Eiko Masuyama, the series runs for seventy-eight episodes of roughly twenty-three minutes each, with every story built around a new dangerous situation at sea or ashore where the crew's bravery and strength fall short and they must rely on Vicky's cleverness. Set in a storybook Norse world of longships, villages and raiding crews, the show is a gentle, warm and wholesome adventure in which humor and kindness outweigh peril. Its episodic structure and playful tone suit fans of Heidi, Girl of the Alps and the German series Wickie und die starken Männer, with the same appeal to young viewers and families looking for an easy, comforting animated watch.
