## Synopsis

Ghost Stories (2000-2001) is a Japanese animated supernatural comedy series created for Fuji TV and produced by Pierrot, a single season of nineteen episodes adapted from a popular children's book. When nearby construction disturbs a spiritual resting place, vengeful youkai begin terrorizing a local elementary school, and a scruffy band of young ghostbusters must expel their possessed schoolmates before everyone is sent to permanent detention. Satsuki Miyanoshita leads the group alongside her crybaby brother, the resident class stud, the school nerd who fancies himself a physical researcher, and a resentful demon-possessed cat. Each episode is a self-contained haunting built around a new spirit, with weird school corridors, classroom scares and nighttime rooms turned uncanny. The tone mixes slapstick childish bravado with genuinely creepy folklore imagery, so it lands as both playful and unsettling. Fans of GeGeGe no Kitaro, Ghostbusters and Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! will find resonance in its blend of youkai lore, kid detectives and comic horror. Set in contemporary Japan, it feels like a nostalgic, mischievous afterschool adventure with a sharp edge.
