## Synopsis

Romeo x Juliet (2007) is a Japanese animated historical romance series created by GONZO and aired on TBS. Adapted loosely from Shakespeare's tragedy, it follows Juliet Fiammata Asto Capulet (Fumie Mizusawa), the only surviving member of a murdered noble family, who has grown up in hiding in the futuristic city of Neo Verona. Voiced by Takahiro Mizushima, Romeo Candorebanto Montague becomes her ally and first love, though he belongs to the house that seized power. Juliet's engine is a double bind: she fights the regime of poverty and fear as a masked rebel known as the Red Whirlwind, while her family pushes her to reclaim her title and her duty. Each episode mixes swordplay, chases and political maneuvering with the slow ache of a love that cannot be allowed. The single season of 24 episodes runs as one continuing story with a serialized arc. The tone is melodramatic and sweeping, blending operatic romance with dark, tense imagery and a sense of impending doom. Fans of Revolutionary Girl Utena, Code Geass and Gankutsuou will find resonance in its mix of forbidden romance, class rebellion and stylized tragedy.
