## Synopsis

Mazinger Edition Z: The Impact! (2009) is a Japanese animated super robot series created by Go Nagai for TV Tokyo, TV Aichi and TV Osaka. It follows the hot-blooded teenager Kouji Kabuto, voiced in the cast by Kenji Akabane, who pilots the giant robot Mazinger Z, a machine his grandfather Juzo built from the metal Chogokin Z. His family, including Shiro Kabuto (Ayumi Fujimura), stands against the villain Dr. Hell (Kazuhiko Kishino), who sends armies of Machine Beasts to seize Photon Power, the super energy mined from Japanium ore. Each episode of this single 26-episode season is built around a fresh clash of monsters and robots, with Kouji's allies and rivals joining the fight. The engine is simple and direct: a young pilot who must hold the line against escalating attacks on the lab. Set in a present-day framing with mythic undertones drawn from Bardos Island and ancient Mycenaean legend, the series delivers bombastic energy, heroic camaraderie and sincere, old-school mecha fun. Fans of Mobile Suit Gundam and Neon Genesis Evangelion will find kinship in its piloted-robot spectacle, though this is a more unapologetic, classic super robot entry.
