## Synopsis

Dag (2010-2015) is a Norwegian comedy-drama series created for TV 2 Direkte, following a couples therapist who holds a ninety percent divorce rate and believes people should live alone. The title character is played by Atle Antonsen, a quiet, self-satisfied man whose solitude is his favorite comfort and whose secret indulgence is prescription drugs. Anders Baasmo Christiansen plays Benedikt Skovrand, and Tuva Novotny plays Eva Holstad, the woman whose arrival unsettles Dag's carefully managed life. Each episode runs about twenty-three minutes and builds on the friction between Dag's cynical professional advice and the messy intimacy he cannot avoid, from his patients' marriages to his own growing attachment. The show spans four seasons and forty episodes, with the central relationship and its consequences moving forward across the run. Its register is dry, awkward, and wry, with humor that comes from the gap between Dag's self-assurance and his emotional clumsiness. Scandinavian character comedy in the vein of Curb Your Enthusiasm and Louie will appeal to viewers who enjoy unlikable protagonists and bittersweet romance, and the show balances melancholy with a sly affection for its flawed lead.
