## Synopsis

Soul Eater (2008-2009) is a Japanese anime series produced by BONES and aired on TV Tokyo, adapted from the manga by Atsushi Okubo. Set at Shibusen, a technical school for Shinigami weapon meisters, it follows three partnerships: Maka Albarn (voiced by Chiaki Omigawa) with her scythe partner Soul Evans (Koki Uchiyama), Black Star (Yumiko Kobayashi) with Tsubaki Nakatsukasa (Kaori Nazuka), and Death the Kid (Mamoru Miyano) with the Thompson sisters Patricia and Elizabeth. Their goal is to transform a weapon into a Death Scythe by collecting the souls of 99 evil humans and one witch, while defending Death City from powerful creatures and keeping up with ordinary schoolwork. The single 51-episode season mixes episodic monster-of-the-week battles with a serialized thread of rising stakes. Its tone is kinetic and absurdly playful, with gothic horror imagery and bursts of violent combat balanced by slapstick and eccentric character comedy. Fans of Black Butler, Blood Blockade Battlefront and Fullmetal Alchemist will find a similar blend of supernatural action, offbeat humor and youthful camaraderie.
