## Synopsis

Pitbull (2005-2008) is a Polish crime drama series broadcast on TVP2 across three seasons and thirty-one episodes. Its central figures are officers of the Department for Counteracting Criminal Terror and Homicides, led by the hard-edged detective Sławomir Desperski, nicknamed Despero (Marcin Dorociński), alongside his partner Jacek Goc, nicknamed Gebels (Andrzej Grabowski). Other principal officers, including Igor Rosłoń (Paweł Królikowski) and Monika Grochowska (Roma Gąsiorowska), face murders, racketeering, kidnappings and drug trafficking while wrestling with their own troubled private lives. The engine of the series is the daily grind of the squad, tracking dangerous gangsters through a city where no rules seem to apply and each case pushes the detectives closer to the moral line separating them from the criminals they hunt. Episodes unfold in a serialized manner, with threads carried across the seasons. The series is an extension of the story introduced in the feature film, and it presents a realistic, brutal and bleak picture of the underworld. Its tone is gritty, cynical and tense, with a sustained atmosphere of moral unease. Fans of The Wire and Line of Duty will find resonance in its portrait of compromised police work and institutional grit.
