## Synopsis

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 (2009) is a Japanese animated disaster drama created for Fuji TV, produced by Kinema Citrus and BONES. Across eleven episodes of roughly twenty-three minutes each, a middle school freshman named Mirai (voiced by Satomi Hanamura) and her older brother Yuuki (voiced by Yumiko Kobayashi) are caught on Odaiba Island when a magnitude 8.0 quake rips from an ocean trench and topples Tokyo's landmarks. Their engine is simple and urgent: they want to reach their family home in western Tokyo while the city around them fractures, and every stretch of road brings new danger, new strangers and new losses. A motorcycle courier named Mari (voiced by Yuhko Kobayashi's co-star Yuhko Kaida) becomes their guide through the wreckage. The series moves in one continuous thread, with each episode built around a single obstacle in the ruined streets. Its tone is tense and sincere, with a quiet emotional core about siblings and resilience under pressure. Fans of Shelter, Erased and Chernobyl will find resonance in its grounded survival stakes and its humane, emotionally direct portrait of ordinary people caught in catastrophe.
