## Synopsis

The Amanda Show (1999-2002) is an American live action sketch comedy and variety series created by Dan Schneider for Nickelodeon. Amanda Bynes leads the show alongside Drake Bell and Nancy Sullivan, with John Kassir, Raquel Lee and Josh Peck also appearing as performers who came and went across the run. Bynes's Penelope Taynt, Sullivan's Mrs. Klutz, Bell's Carter Klutz and Peck's Paulie anchor a rotating set of recurring sketch characters, and each episode is built from broad, physical comedy, short scenes and music segments rather than a continuing story. The series ran for three seasons totaling forty episodes, each about twenty-three minutes long, and was a spin-off from the earlier sketch show All That, in which Bynes had previously co-starred. Its tone is loud, bright and sillyish, aimed squarely at young viewers, with a steady stream of exaggerated characters and absurd escalation. Fans of All That and the family sketch tradition of late nineties kids television will find the same breezy energy here, and the cast's later work with Dan Schneider on Drake & Josh extends the same young-audience comic sensibility. The show was canceled after its third season, leaving its sketch format with no formal finale.
