## Synopsis

Dirk Gently (2012) is a British science fiction comedy mystery series created by Douglas Adams and Howard Overman for BBC Four. Stephen Mangan plays the eccentric private detective Dirk Gently, who insists that all things are fundamentally interconnected and takes on cases no conventional investigator would touch. Darren Boyd and Lisa Jackson co-star as his associates, and Helen Baxendale appears in a supporting role as Susan Harmison. Each of the three hour-long episodes builds from an apparently ordinary missing-person or murder inquiry that spirals into supernatural coincidence, time-displaced events and improbable connections between strangers. The engine of the show is Dirk's refusal to follow linear logic, so every clue leads somewhere unexpected and the plot loops back on itself with playful precision. The atmosphere is breezy and deadpan, with absurdist humour carried by sharp dialogue and a sense of cosmic whimsy. It is a single-season, three-episode limited run that will appeal to fans of Douglas Adams, Doctor Who and offbeat British comedy-mysteries.
