## Synopsis

Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai (1991-1992) is a Japanese animated shonen fantasy adventure series created for TBS, produced by Toei Animation and based on the manga that grew out of the Dragon Quest video game franchise. Dai, a boy raised on the island of Delmurin by the kindly monster Brass, dreams of becoming a hero. When the demon lord Hadlar returns, the former hero Avan trains Dai and his fellow student Pop to fight him, but Avan dies in the attempt to protect them. A mysterious mark awakens sudden powers in Dai, and he and Pop set out on a journey across a world full of monsters, villains, and allies, including Princess Leona. The story unfolds across a single season of 46 episodes, following a steady quest structure of battles, rivalries, and bonds of friendship. Its tone is earnest and hopeful, with bright adventure, comic moments, and sincere emotional beats. Fans of Dragon Ball, Yu Yu Hakusho, and classic Dragon Quest games will find familiar resonance in its blend of fantasy quest and shonen heroism.
