## Synopsis

Gosick (2011) is a Japanese animated mystery series produced by BONES and broadcast on TV Tokyo and affiliated stations. Set in a fictional European country in 1924, it follows Kazuya Kujou (Takuya Eguchi), a Japanese exchange student at a prestigious academy who befriends Victorique de Blois (Aoi Yuki), a brilliant and mysterious girl who rarely leaves the school library. Her brother Grevil de Blois (Hidenobu Kiuchi) is a detective who relies on her exceptional mind to solve difficult crimes, so each episode is built around a self-contained puzzle that Kazuya helps unravel from the outside world. The series runs for a single season of twenty-four episodes, a case-of-the-week format threaded with a gradually deepening friendship. Its tone is gothic and wistful, with shadowy European architecture, interwar unease and an undercurrent of folklore and occult menace. Fans of Sherlock, Sherlock Holmes and Mushishi will find resonance in its blend of cerebral deduction, period atmosphere and quiet emotional warmth.
