## Synopsis

Fort Boyard (1990-present) is a French reality game show created by Jacques Antoine, Jean-Pierre Mitrecey and Pierre Launais for France 2. Filmed inside the real Fort Boyard, a sea fortress off the French Atlantic coast, the show follows teams of contestants as they move through its chambers attempting physical and endurance challenges in pursuit of prize money. The engine is simple and tactile: players must solve puzzles, brave water, heights and tight physical tests, and gather keys or clues before time runs out. Costumed guardians, including Père Fouras, Passe-Partout and Passe-Muraille, play recurring roles, bringing a playful theatrical presence to each episode. Across thirty-seven seasons and hundreds of episodes, the format stays largely the same, a long-running episodic competition built around the fortress itself. Its tone is cheerful, family-friendly and lightly absurd, with a sense of adventure and nostalgia for generations of French viewers. Fans of Wipeout, Jeux Sans Frontières and Takeshi's Castle will find a similar appeal in its stunt-driven, arena-style fun. Set in a real historic location rather than a studio, it offers an easy, comforting watch.
