## Synopsis

The Confession (2011) is a short American miniseries created for Hulu, a ten-episode psychological crime thriller with episodes running only about seven minutes each. Kiefer Sutherland plays the hitman known only as The Confessor, who enters a church on Christmas Eve to unburden his sins, and John Hurt plays the Priest who must hear him out. The engine is a single long conversation: the Confessor's cold, deliberate manner suggests an unrepentant killing machine, while the Priest appears to be the ultimate arbiter of good, and each confession chips away at both assumptions. The story unfolds in a dim, enclosed church where every exchange carries pressure, and the tension comes from what is withheld as much as from what is said. Supporting actors Max Casella, Michael Badalucco, Greg Ellis, Daniel London and Curtis McClarin fill out the wider world the men describe. The tone is sombre, intimate and morally unsettling, with the atmosphere of a chamber drama. Viewers who enjoy the confessional two-hander tension of Hannibal and the moral ambiguity of Dexter will find resonance here, and it suits a single focused sitting.
