## Synopsis

Titanic (2012) is a British historical drama miniseries created by Julian Fellowes for ITV1. Across four episodes it follows the maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic in 1912, weaving together the private lives of passengers from first class to steerage. Peter Wight plays Joseph Rushton, Brian McCardie plays First Officer Murdoch, David Calder plays Captain Smith, and Stephen Campbell Moore plays Thomas Andrews, while Jenna Coleman plays Annie Desmond, an emigrant hoping for a new life in America. Each episode moves between decks and classes, so secrets, romances and quiet resentments play out beside the ship's grand, optimistic celebration. The drama is built on the slow tightening of that mood as the voyage darkens and the separate stories are forced into one shared struggle for survival. Its register is elegant and melancholic, with a sense of gilded dread running under the period detail. Fans of Downton Abbey, A Night to Remember and the 1997 film Titanic will find resonance in its sweeping ensemble and its class-divided portrait of an ocean liner disaster.
