## Synopsis

SpongeBob SquarePants (1999-present) is an American Nickelodeon animated comedy created by Stephen Hillenburg for Nickelodeon. Set in the undersea city of Bikini Bottom, it follows an optimistic yellow sponge who works as a fry cook at the Krusty Krab and lives in a pineapple with his pet snail Gary. Tom Kenny voices SpongeBob, and Bill Fagerbakke plays his simple-hearted starfish best friend Patrick Star. Rodger Bumpass gives Squidward, the cranky next-door neighbor whose nerves SpongeBob constantly frays, a perfectly weary drone, while Clancy Brown voices the penny-pinching restaurant owner Mr. Krabs. Each eleven-minute episode is a self-contained case of the week built from concrete small-scale wants: a job well done, a lost item, a silly contest, a neighborhood feud. The show runs across eighteen seasons with hundreds of episodes, and its gags move quickly through slapstick, wordplay and surreal cartoon logic. Its tone is cheerful, goofy and sincerely warm, with a stream of sea-creature and tiki-culture oddities. Fans of The Ren and Stimpy Show, Adventure Time and The Amazing World of Gumball will find the same playful absurdity and friendship at its heart.
