## What critics say

Critics and viewers praise Grimm's inventive fairy-tale creature world-building and its blend of police procedural and supernatural mystery, though its formulaic monster-of-the-week structure and uneven middle seasons draw criticism.

## Synopsis

Grimm (2011-2017) is an American fantasy police procedural created by David Greenwalt, Jim Kouf and Stephen Carpenter for NBC. Portland homicide detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) discovers he is a Grimm, a hunter descended from an ancient line tasked with policing the monstrous Wesen who walk among ordinary people disguised as humans. His partner Hank Griffin (Russell Hornsby) investigates murders with no idea of the hidden world around him, while Nick's friend Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell), a reformed Wesen, becomes his guide and conscience. Sean Renard (Sasha Roiz) and Juliette Silverton (Elizabeth Tulloch) bring political and romantic tangles into the mix. Across six seasons and 122 episodes, the show runs as a mostly case-of-the-week procedural layered over a continuing mythology. Each episode pairs a homicide investigation with a creature of the week, building a dense, fairy tale bestiary of species and cultures. The tone mixes moody neo-noir city atmosphere with brisk genre action and dry humor. Fans of Sleepy Hollow, Supernatural and Forever will find resonance in its blend of monster hunting and crime investigation.
