## What critics say

Red vs. Blue is broadly acclaimed by its audience as a long-running, affectionate machinima parody of military sci-fi shooters that rewards devoted fans across its many seasons.

## Synopsis

Red vs. Blue is an American web-born animated sci-fi comedy built as a machinima serial, produced for online video audiences across a very long run. Set in a far-future military conflict, it follows two rival squads, the Red Team and the Blue Team, whose grand war has been reduced to an endless struggle over a box canyon that is the least desirable piece of ground in the known universe. The engine of the series is the gap between epic sci-fi stakes and the soldiers' petty squabbling, incompetence and self-absorption. Each short episode is built around gags, running jokes and fragments of video game style action, while the continuing conflict keeps rolling forward through many seasons. Its tone is irreverent, deadpan and breezy, with a loyal, self-referential fan culture that delights in its in-jokes. Viewers who enjoy workplace sitcoms about incompetent colleagues, or affectionate shooter parody, will find its blend of camaraderie and absurdity immediately familiar and easy to binge in short bursts.
