## Synopsis

Awkward. (2011-2016) is an American teen comedy-drama series created by Lauren Iungerich for MTV. Ashley Rickards plays Jenna Hamilton, a fifteen-year-old whose ordinary life spirals after a simple accident becomes an epic misunderstanding that spreads through her high school. Beau Mirchoff plays Matty McKibben, the boy at the center of her chaos, while Nikki DeLoach plays her mother Lacey Hamilton, and Jillian Rose Reed plays Tamara Kaplan, a friend whose loyalties shift. Jenna wants to escape her reputation and win back her standing, and each episode is built from the small humiliations, romantic misfires, and social alliances that make up everyday adolescence. Jenna narrates the story in the voice of her blog posts, giving the show a confessional, self-aware sense of humor. The series ran five seasons as a serialized high school sitcom with a dramatic edge, its episodes stitched together by a single running scandal. Its tone is irreverent and breezy yet sincere about the awkwardness of growing up. Fans of Degrassi: The Next Generation, Freaks and Geeks, and Ugly Betty will find resonance in its mix of teen angst, humor, and heartfelt moments.
