## Synopsis

Warrior Baek Dong Soo (2011) is a South Korean historical action drama series created by Lee Hyun-jik and Kim Hong-sun for SBS. Ji Chang-wook plays the adult Baek Dong-soo, a real Joseon figure who grows from a green student into a swordsman and folk hero, while Yoo Seung-ho plays his rival and bond-brother Yeo Woon. Yoon So-yi and Shin Hyun-bin appear among the principal cast, and Choi Min-soo and Jun Kwang-ryul add weight as veteran power players. The engine of the series is Baek's loyalty tested by shifting alliances among rival factions: King Jeongjo's court, a Qing envoy, the Japanese swordsman Kenzo, and the assassin guild Heuksa Chorong. Each episode pairs court scheming with duels and chase sequences, building toward a single season of twenty-nine hour-long episodes. Adapted from a 2010 comic by Lee Jae-heon, it is a Korean fusion of historical drama and martial arts action, set in eighteenth century Joseon Korea. The tone mixes youthful earnestness with harsh political danger, and its themes of brotherhood, friendship, loyalty and honor give it a coming-of-age heart. Fans of Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth and Jeon Woo-chi: The Taoist Wizard will find resonance in its blend of Joseon setting, swordplay and youthful camaraderie.
