## Synopsis

Dalziel and Pascoe (1996-2007) is a British police procedural series created by Reginald Hill for BBC One. Warren Clarke plays the blunt, politically incorrect Detective Superintendent Andy Dalziel, a large, curmudgeonly copper whose unorthodox methods clash with those of his sensitive, university-educated sidekick Peter Pascoe, played by Colin Buchanan. Their partnership is the heart of the show, as the pair investigate murders in the fictional Yorkshire town of Wetherton, working through rivalries, bureaucracy and their starkly different approaches to rules and policing. Each feature-length episode is built around a classic murder mystery, with the detectives chasing suspects through local communities and office politics. Supporting officers such as Edgar Wield and Kim Spicer fill out the squad room. The tone mixes sharp, down-to-earth wit and warm humour with the grit of a northern English crime story. Across twelve series and sixty-one episodes, the show has a steady, character-driven rhythm. Fans of Inspector Morse, Cracker and Midsomer Murders will find resonance in its British detective tradition, its literate plotting and its odd-couple chemistry.
