## Synopsis

DCI Banks (2011-2016) is a British police procedural series created from the novels of Peter Robinson and broadcast on ITV1. Stephen Tompkinson plays the tenacious, stubborn Chief Inspector Alan Banks, who leads murder investigations alongside the feisty, headstrong Detective Sergeant Annie Cabbot, played by Andrea Lowe. Their working relationship is the heart of the show, with Banks pursuing killers through stubborn persistence and Cabbot pushing back with her own instincts and temper. Each case unfolds over a run of episodes, as the detectives interview witnesses, chase leads through the bleak small communities and rural lanes of northern England, and untangle the motives behind every death. The series spans five seasons of six episodes each across a 45-minute running time, with a consistent structure that leans on investigation rather than spectacle. Its tone is measured and melancholy, shaped by damp landscapes, quiet interiors and the personal cost of the job. Fans of Wallander, Inspector Morse and Scott and Bailey will find the same blend of British detective craft, moral weariness and steady investigative momentum that keeps viewers returning.
