## Synopsis

Thief (2006) is an American crime miniseries created by Norman Morrill for FX. Andre Braugher plays Nick Atwater, the leader of a robbery crew who is trying to hold together his personal life while planning a major heist. Yancey Arias plays Gabriel Williams and Malik Yoba plays Elmo Jones, his crew members, and Michael Rooker plays Detective John Hayes, a relentless cop closing in on the group. Meanwhile the Chinese mafia, embodied by Will Yun Lee as Vincent Chan, adds pressure from another direction. The engine of the story is the tension between the careful choreography of a robbery and the messy demands of home, with each episode tightening the net around the crew. Set in present-day New Orleans, the six-episode run carries a gritty, humid, hard-edged atmosphere, with morally compromised characters and a sense that every plan could collapse. Its tone is tense and brooding, with moments of emotional strain. Fans of Heat, Breaking Bad and Brotherhood will find resonance in its crime-driven drama and cat and mouse pursuit. Viewers who enjoy a single, self-contained crime story told over one short run will find it rewarding.
