## Synopsis

The Weissensee Saga (2010-2018) is a German period drama series created by Friedemann Fromm for Das Erste. Set in East Berlin during the German Democratic Republic, it follows two families whose lives are bound together by ambition, loyalty and fear of the state security apparatus. Martin Kupfer (Florian Lukas) and Julia Hausmann (Hannah Herzsprung) anchor the story, while Hans Kupfer (Uwe Kockisch) and Dunja Hausmann (Katrin Sass) represent the older generation caught between conviction and compromise. Falk Kupfer (Jörg Hartmann) embodies the pressures of service within the Stasi. Across four seasons of six episodes each, the series alternates between the years 1980 and 1987, letting private romance, professional advancement and hidden betrayals unfold against the watchful eye of the regime. Its emotional register is measured and melancholic, with moments of quiet hope, and its atmosphere of suspicion and claustrophobic daily life recalls the cold war character studies of Deutschland 83 and The Lives of Others. The result is a patient, layered saga of divided berlin families, told with restraint and deep attention to ordinary detail.
