## What critics say

Critics broadly view Mord mit Aussicht as a witty, cosy German crime comedy whose satire and lead performance carry formulaic case-of-the-week plotting.

## Synopsis

Mord mit Aussicht (2008-2024) is a German satirical crime comedy series created by Marie Reiners for Das Erste, the ARD public broadcaster. Caroline Peters plays Sophie Haas, a sharp city detective who takes a job in the fictional rural village of Hengasch, where she clashes with the locals and their quirks. Bjarne Mädel stars as Dietmar Schäffer, and Katharina Wackernagel as Marie Gabler, both among the principal characters who share the investigative work. Each episode is a self-contained case of the week, with a murder to solve and the village's stock characters, petty rivalries and small-town rituals providing much of the comedy. The show runs five seasons and fifty-eight episodes, mixing deadpan dialogue with affectionate mockery of both city and countryside clichés. The tone is witty, breezy and gently absurd, with the satire landing through character rather than cruelty. Fans of Midsomer Murders will find the same blend of village mystery and provincial parody here, alongside the lighter comic touch of Doc Martin. It suits viewers who enjoy cozy crime with a sharp, self-aware edge.
