## Synopsis

Æon Flux (1991-1995) is an American adult animated science fiction series created by Peter Chung for MTV. Its protagonist is Æon Flux, a tall, leather-clad secret agent from the anarchist nation of Monica, voiced by Denise Poirier. Her missions push her into the strongholds of Bregna, a police state ruled by Trevor Goodchild, voiced by John Rafter Lee, who is alternately her nemesis and her lover. Across three seasons and sixteen episodes, the engine is cat-and-mouse infiltration: she sneaks through hostile architecture, uses acrobatics and assassination, and confronts the mechanics of control and rebellion. Each half-hour episode is largely self-contained, held together by the shifting relationship between the two leaders and the political tension between the two nations. The series is set in a bizarre, dystopian future world, rendered in a surreal, abstract visual style with unusual creatures and unsettling imagery. Its tone is sardonic, sensual, and dreamlike, with a cool, cerebral detachment. Fans of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Dark City, and Batman Beyond will find resonance in its cyberpunk textures and its critique of authoritarian states. It remains a cult favorite of mature animation viewers.
