## Synopsis

Banshee (2013-2016) is an American crime drama series created by David Schickler and Jonathan Tropper for Cinemax. Antony Starr plays an enigmatic ex-con who assumes the identity of a murdered sheriff in a small Pennsylvania town bordering Amish country, and he is joined by Ivana Miličević as Carrie Hopewell and Ulrich Thomsen as Kai Proctor, a powerful figure whose hardcore religious background makes him a formidable foe. Hoon Lee and Frankie Faison fill out the supporting cast. The engine of the show is the protagonist's double life: he must keep his false identity intact while running his own schemes, from robberies to a criminal empire, and each season escalates the threats against him. Episodes are built from fast-paced confrontations, cat-and-mouse plotting and hard-edged violence, with a steady stream of sex and profanity, and the show carries a brash, pulpy energy. Its single continuing story unfolds across four seasons. Set in a fictional Pennsylvania town with a mix of rural and criminal underworlds, the series has a gritty, sweaty texture. Fans of Justified, Ray Donovan and Breaking Bad will find resonance in its morally compromised antihero, its violent crime world and its appetite for dangerous power games.
